Abstract: A gas loop warm plasma jet generator with air as the working gas as well as cooling media was designed by optimizing the generator electrode and cooling structure in order to better meet the requirements of portable, simple operation, and diverse application backgrounds of plasma jet generator. The impacts of gas flow rate, discharge frequency, and discharge voltage on plasma jet temperature were studied. It was found that the introduction of cooling gas obviously reduces the jet temperature. Under the conditions of 5.5 kV voltage, 22 kHz frequency and 7 L/min flow rate, the introduction of cooling gas reduced the jet temperature by 302 ℃. The jet temperature decreased with the increase of gas flow rate and discharge frequency, but increased with the increase of discharge voltage. The decrease of jet temperature was more dependent on gas flow rate than discharge frequency or voltage.

Key words: air plasma jet generator, air cooling, plasma jet temperature dependence
