Mating behavior of captive black stork(Ciconia nigra) during the breeding season

Abstract: Using video monitoring method,the mating behaviors of five pairs of captive black stork(Ciconia nigra)were observed at the zoo in Baoding from 2014 to 2015.The results showed that:the captive black stork mating first started on January 5th,and ended by April 24th.The average mating duration was(14.60±2.967)d. There were highly significant differences in different periods of time of the day on mating times(P<0.01).The mating peak time appeared at 07:00 and in an hour later after sunrise;The tail bias of male black stork was significantly different between individuals when mating(P< 0.01);The duration of copulation range was 11—24 s,the average mating duration was(15.07±2.560)s,which mainly concentrated in the 13 s;Call time after mating ranged from 2 to 11 seconds,which mainly concentrated in 2—3 s;In the process of the mating,male black stork tail depress 1—6 times,the average in(3.47±1.068)times,which mainly concentrated in 3 times.
