Fabrication and characterization of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) /SiO2 nanocomposite hydrogels

Abstract: In this work, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)/SiO2 nanocomposite hydrogel with high mechanical strength and thermo-responsiveness were successfully prepared through a facile and in-expensive methods of in-situ polymerization. The structure, mechanical properties, and thermo-dynamic performance of the resultant samples were analyzed and characterized using SEM, TEM, FT-IR, ASG-J electronic universal testing machine, and DSC.The results indicated that the nanocomposite hydrogel showed a well-defined and interconnected 3D porous network structure with the pore size of 1 μm, high compression mechanical strength(8 MPa)and excellent toughness, and a clear phase transition temperature of 35 ℃.
