A new method for visual detection of pyrophosphate

Abstract: Pyrophosphate(PPi)plays an important role in the biological and environmental systems.Therefore,a simple,rapid,high sensitivity determination of the pyrophosphate is of great significance.A new colorimetric strategy for the visual detection of pyrophosphate by the naked eye under the irradiation of a UV lamp was developed on the basis of Cu2+-induced fluorescence band shift of CdTe quantum dots(QDs)and the strong interaction between PPi and Cu2+. PPi can be visually detected in the range of 5 μmol/L to 50 μmol/L.Furthermore,this method was of good specificity and it also can be used for the detection of the pyrophosphatase activity.
