Abstract: Paternal obesity can lead to some defects of epigenetic modification in sperm, which is passed on to the offspring with a serious impact on the health. This article reviews the abnormal epigenetic modifications such as DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNAs due to paternal obesity and the mechanism of intergenerational inheritance of paternal obesity, as well as the epigenetic effects from parental obesity on the health of parents and children, providing reference materials for prevention and diagnosis of the related diseases in offspring.

Key words: paternal obesity, sperm, epigenetic, intergenerational inheritance
